Default so my car left me...stranded...and no MMI

Well it finally happened, the day you get back to you car and as you attempt to open the door (advanced key), nothing opens. I even press unlock on the Fob and nothing...I manually open the door, no lights, a couple of things light up on the dash, but it's pretty dead.

I attempt to start the car and nothing...my car is dead.

Well, I try to jump it and still nothing, I had skinny little jumpers (borrowed from another driver) and those things did nothing. Finally an AAA guy happens to be close by and get some heavy duty jumpers and life is good...however, no MMI on in the dash

Today I just went ahead and got a good replacement battery and everything is working fine again EXCEPT my MMI is still dead.

In fact, I'm no getting any power to it since I can verify that my Dension is no live at all. Is there a specific fuse I should be looking for?

I lent out my vag cable, but will be getting it back this week to help troubleshoot.

But not having a MMI is a huge disappointment and I'd love to get it back working...any ideas at all would be appreciated and I'll try almost anything at this point.

FWIW, my fuses look good - in all 3 location!
I have no water anywhere, car parked underground and such
I tried the 3 button reset and attempted to turn on MMI

What if the Dension Unit itself is fried breaking the optical chain? Just trying to be optimistic here... My fried CD changer made me think my MMI was dead too, and than I took it out of the loop and it was all good. (had to take connector apart and tape the cable ends in front of each other I had no optical loop in the car) ) Have you taken the optic connector off to see if the red juice is circulating?

Oh and you have to take the key out and put it in again after a minute or so for it to come back. It's not instant

Good point, I could take the Dension out of the loop and connect it back to the original loop.

I didn't install the Dension, it was done by the original owner. But I've also heard the Dension 500 has a fuse in it, so that may be the issue. The power on the CD is working, so is that of the DVD player (in trunk), but there is no power to the Dension or the MMI.

just went out and decided to try to remove the power cable in the fuse box (passenger side) of the Dension unit. After I pulled it and reconnected it, the Dension flashed blue for about 20-25 seconds then nothing. So it appears that unit has some power coming to it, but after a period of time it's going into some kind of 'sleep mode'

You have to go out one more time take the dension out of the optical loop! You want to make sure that its not breaking it. A black MMI and no lights on the control buttons was caused by a dead CD changer that would occasionally flash it's lights on my car. Take the CD changer out of the loop too just in case that's fried too. What do you have to loose ? It might be a broken optical loop by a fried unit when you jump started it. THese cars don't like that I hear.

First thing in going to do is get my vag cable back and diag. Then I'll start to uncouple the dension optical loops. But it may be that the control head is gone, but the vag will tell me more tomorrow.

It just stung not having the mmi, hence no nav, music, bt, nothing

I was just trying to cheer you up, vag will definitely shed more light. What exactly is a control head? You mean the Interface computer module?

Well I'm already in a sad state...so thanks.

As for control head, I believe we are both referring to the same thing, it's part # 4E0 035 729 ...what would that be officially called?

I'll be posting more info tomorrow.

So ran the vag this morning and here's what I've got. It appears that the issues are a LOT of 'cannot be reached' which again, leads me to believe the ICM/control head is the issue...but I welcome thoughts:

07-Control Head -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
0E-Media Player 1 -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
0F-Digital Radio -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
37-Navigation -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
47-Sound System -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
56-Radio -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
67-Voice Control -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
77-Telephone -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100

I did see one optical fault, which coincided with the event.
