Sunroof Won't Open

Sunroof Won't Open
2005 A6 3.2L with 105K
Went to use my sunroof for the first time this summer. Would have been a nice day for it. When I turn the **** for it open, the rear of the sunroof drops down, begins to slide and then stops and reseals the window.
It still opens correctly when using the tilt (moon roof?), just won't slide open.
I was able to find lost of posts about sunroofs which won't close but didn't see the reverse situation.
Any suggestions on what to try myself before having the shop charge me for something easy to fix?
Thanks

Now I'm just afraid of opening the roof. I know there is a tsb for roof adaptation process - could that be a solution?

While we are talking about sunroof issues, I have just the opposite. After opening the sunroof, the roof doesn't close - it reaches the last part where the wind deflector is pressed down; and right there, the sunroof reverses direction and opens all the way. I can make the roof close till the last click on the dial - no problem, but the '0' position is where the roof just attempts to close and then reverses. It is almost like a bad pinch protection.. or something is getting stuck.. second time this issue has occurred, and then after a lot of tries, the roof closed.
