Think a timing chain tensioner failed, need advice.
Hi Everyone,
I think one of my timing chain tensioners failed on my 2008 A6 4.2L. VCDS initially gave me the following codes:
After clearing codes I get:
The p0016 (bank 1) makes more sense to me than the p0019 (bank 2) that I was initially getting because all 4 cylinders on bank 1 were misfiring. I also tried swapping the cam sensors side to side to see if the code switched sides, but it stayed. I'm basically ruling out the speed sensor (crank) as a possibility because the problem seems to be effecting only the one side of the motor except for the oddity of the p0019 (bank 2) code I initially received.
1. Does anybody have any opinions of further things to check?
2. Assuming it's a chain tensioner, does anybody have a shop recommendation near the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago?

IIRC the 4.2l engine will need to be pulled for timing chain tensioner replacement. Certainly appears to be your problem. Had similar codes on a VR6 that turned out to be a timing issue (solenoid valve jammed - not applicable to your engine) and not failed sensors.
