Tiptronic TCM Location?
Hi,
I'm having intermittent transmission CANbus communication problems and the first thing I need to do is check the connections to the TCM...
Does anyone know where it is?

Not certain on an A6, but I'd suggest it's in the ECU box in the plenum chamber under the windscreen.
Usually above the steering column/dashboard area.

As mentioned the ECU box is in the plenum chamber under the windscreen - check that for any water penetration. I removed mine, cleaned it with 'electrical contact cleaner' and replaced.
The TCM is under the drivers carpet on the right hand side of the vehicle (UK model) or passengers (US), kinda in-between the pedals and seat sitting on the floor, in a plastic black box.
Water / moisture a common issue with these - remove and dry out, if necessary, and clean contacts with above cleaner also.

I assume this uses one of the ZF transmissions just like the petrol engines. If that is the case it is inside the tranny. The first thing you should check is the electrical connector on the transmission where the CANbus enters. See the image. This is for the 3.2 and 4.3 petrol engine. Note the connector just above the transmission oil pan.

Thanks Schwarz,
Unfortunately, you're right!
This is the mechatronic (TCM + Valve Block) - the TCM sits on the back of the Valve Block so you have to remove as a complete assembly.
The bad news is that it has to be replaced as a complete assembly to - Audi want £2600, not including fitting!
Joy!

hi mate.. what year/model is your Audi?
Has it got water / moisture in the control module?
If so, just remove it and let it dry out and clean the electrical contacts - this usually does the trick.
Failing that, get the part # off it, and just have a look on eBay / scrap yards etc.. and replace.
No point going to Audi - they WILL charge you a bomb!.. and you'll probably be able to source it quicker anyway.
