He is right, you guys are running way too high pressures. Owner's manual lists 36/33 for the 245/40R18 all season and 33/30 for the same size high performance tires. (front/rear) these pressures are for normal load with up to 3 occupants.

the tires themselves will show max pressure

i ruined a set of tires running on i think was 33

when i raised them to 40 i noticed a tiny bit road stiffness but improved performance handling n maybe increased MPG

i personally would never ride less then 38 on our cars

check the inside of fuel cap lid
my sticker shows to run btw 38-39 fronts and 33-42 rears
its just easier for me to keep em all the same @ 40

our 18 conti tires are 97H

this is for C6 A6s which came stock w 18s

Mainland, that's interesting to see the label on your 2005 car. The crossover point (for Audi) must have between 2005MY and 2006MY. Our 2006MY Avant no longer has this sticker and only shows MAX Load on the B pillar. ROW cars still show both load conditions, of course.

(One of my co-workers had a 2006 MBz and the label in that car still showed Normal load and MAX load conditions.)

The 1st pic is from inside my fuel cap and 2nd pic is fellow forum member's wheel well... maybe check there they might of relocated the sticker there

im not surprise about 2006 ... There is a clear mark/line/event that took place in approx midway 2006... alot of standards updated around that time.

ie
rear floor mat plug spacing
Park assist graphical display
etc

Thanks for all the replies.

I have them now at 36 all the way around - made a HUGE difference. Im getting a MUCH better ride and improved gas mileage.

I may try 38 all the way around - not sure yet.

Not sure why fronts and rears should be different - can anyone explain.

Thanks,

It's an attempt to equalize the contact patch at each corner of the car. These cars probably carry 70% of their weight on the front axle and the fronts need a higher inflation pressure (under normal load conditions).

Is this for C6 3.2 or S6?

I have S6 wheels, 19x9, 265/35/19 on my A6 3.2 Quattro Avant.

What would be the recommended pressure?

The gas door shows 36/33 unloaded with 245/40/18.

Thanks

Shouldnt they be around 34 PSI on all (4)?

Please confirm.

Thanks,
Check your gauge too. I just recently figured out mine showing less than is real pressure. Pressure depend on tire speed raiting also. Sticker on my 2005 A6 shows for 245/40r18 97H pressure with normal load should be 36 front and 33 rear. But for same size but Y rated tires shows 32 front 30 rear. I have W rated tires on car and with higer pressure I feel every bump on road. I have all tires on 32 psi.

I don't know if that will help you, but I was asking the same question a little while ago. I have found that 38 in the front and 36 in the rear has worked for me. The tire wear is even and I rotate around every 8,000 miles or so. There are some good posts in the above thread.
