Some people say the that the newer models (2008-up) have the blue fluid but I am not sure that is the case as the ZF website specifies that fluid for the w-12 engines only. People who say this are more than likely mistaking this with the green fluid that is used in the newer model C6's. At any rate, the model of the transmission is what ultimately determines the correct fluid type, that is unless you have a newer fluid in your transmission already.

The VW oils, from my knowledge, are the following and are found in different models based on the trans type (someone correct me if I'm wrong):

Gold-G052162A2-$15 (for the C5 and also known as Esso LT 71141)
Gold- G055005A2-$35 (standard type for 2005-2007 C6 & tipronic trans)
Green-G060162A2-$47 (standard type for 2008-up but need software update if you upgrading to this type)
Blue-G055162A2- $80 (for 6HP26A61A2 trans with W-12 engine only)

Again, the transmission model is what determines the type, not the car. I'm doing my flush within the next couple of weeks. Gonna get the trans part & serial #'s tomorrow during my 75k so I can order everything this weekend. Pretty sure I need the
G055005A2.
Just had my local dealer check what fluid I need for my 06 a6 and he came up with the G060162A2. I would guess mixing the gold(factory fill?) and the green could cause problems. This one is starting to look like a dealer only job unless someone has an idea on how to flush the torque converter themself. At that point is the advantage with the green of the blue?

Default New BLUE ATF

So,

1. Can the new blue ATF be used in a 2005 A6 4.2 Quattro with ZFS-005 tranny?

2. Since the transmission will need to be updated... can I do the full flush my self then drive to the dealer about 20 mins away to get the update? or does transmission needs to be updated before any driving?
