Default What oil are you using?

Just thought I'd throw this out there to get an idea on what everyone's car's favorite libation is

So what oil and grade are you using...I've used couple, but currently don't have a fave: Rotella T6 (5w40), Mobil 1 - 0w40

FWIW, I have a 4.2, so need about 9.5 quarts

If I change it, I've been using Castrol Edge - same thing Audi puts in and they've only been charging me $69 for oil and filter - or Mobil 1 (still think that is the best - been using it since it first came out). That said, VIP was selling Castrol for about $24 a gallon while Mobil 1 was around $35. Then I took a closer look - 4 quarts Castrol but 5.1 quarts Mobil 1 - DOH!
If my indy changes it, he uses Pentosin.

Pre-Audi years it was all Mobil 1 except for the Cummins which got Amsoil and I never had an oil burner (but did have one leaker - 87 Supra Turbo).

Another good question - brand of filter. I'm not thrilled with the local auto store options.

The only ones I've EVER used are HENGST or MANN on my car. Both of which I've been pleased with.

Currently using Total Quartz 9000(formerly Elf) 5W-40. Meets exceeds VW 502.00/505.00. Engine runs noticeably smoother vs the M1 I used to use. I'm sending my latest sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis.

Where do you get the Total Quartz 9000? I can't seem to find anywhere close to me that sells it...according to their site anyways? Does wallyworld? They sell the 0w40 for less than $26 for a 5 quart jug

I've used Mobil 1 since it was first available in the 1979s. But since they reformulated it, I switched to Motul 8100. Full Group IV synthetic, higher zinc and phosphates, easily purchased off Amazon.

2nd that. I've also been happy with Motul 8100 0w40 X-Max & AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W-40
