Default Widdling down the possibilities...*SCAN included*

I figured instead of clogging up the board with random questions (after failed searches) I'd post about the things I'm uncovering as I go along.

Audi A6 Quattro 3.2
i was told the head gaskets might be gone on this 3.2 or worse, a cracked block. I've driven it around town... temp gauge stays consistent... doesn't run hot and no visible signs of coolant level lowering. No white smoke and no milky oil.

so I've completed tonight, the first of many tests.
#1: Block tester: cheapo way to test exhaust fumes circulating in the coolant tank. Ran to temperature and fluid has remained blue. I'll scratch that off the list.

noticeable thwacking sound coming from engine. Like plastic clicking.

Tomorrow, VCDS scan. Looking forward to throwing a log up and getting some answers.

Well day two... I got a hold of a vagcom machine and plugged it in. Can't say I know what its all saying so I'll throw it on here and maybe I can get some direction.
I scanned the car with the ignition on but not running... battery is poor and needs a charge every time I switch the ignition on

It would appear, I have a very sick automobile with a plethora of faults. I am not sure if some of these show up naturally because the car isn't running. I have a steering wheel fault somewhere.

At any rate, here are the faults for Controller 01 Engine

There were some voltage related issue. If you have an old battery, I would suggest to replace the battery and clear all the codes. Scan again after a few weeks of using the car.

Thanks for responding... is there anything in these scans that points directly lynto something I could fix or conversely... is there anything that says "stop driving this car"?

The first thing you should do is erase all the faults and then rescan the vehicle to see what persists. The 2 issues I see that standout are:

008309 - Position Sensor for Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (G513)
P2075 - 007 - Elect. Malfunction

000838 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G163)
P0346 - 006 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON

Go to the Ross-Tech site and you can search for the standard troubleshooting for those issues.

There a issue with the Intake Manifold Flap; Bank 1, but that was at over 200K km ago, so it may be a moot point.

OP, why don't you post an actually vid of the car running with the hood open and let us see and hear how the vehicle runs?

Here's a short clip:

One things for certain, I'll need to replace the valve stem seals.

Based upon that noise, it sounds like your upper timing chain tensioners need to be replaced:

Thanks raj... not discounting what's been said... the tensioners were replaced and thus started this assortment of issues. Perhaps they were installed incorrectly.

The clicking noise is most prominent at the front of the engine... opposite to the tensioners.

Unfortunately I can't tell where the noise is coming from in the video clip, so perhaps you're correct that it's not the tensioners. But it doesn't sound "good".
