Default 2012 A7 P0492 code

Hi all, just got off work and shortly after starting to drive my car, the CEL turned on. A quick scan revealed P0492 stored. Has anyone dealt with this before? I searched but did not find anything. It was not cold here today, only rain but. I know I will have to start with the air injection pump but I have no idea where it is

Anyways, any pointers will be appreciated.

Thank you tenspeed , I had read that site before coming here. My concern is with the locations of those components in the A7. Tomorrow I will check the fuses and the like and try to listen for the air pump and see where it goes from there.

Assuming you have the popular V6 with the supercharger, there's not many places to have a intake leak. Perhaps you could look in one of the parts catalogs and see where the air injection pump is.

That link is great, thank you and of course, they had to hide it in the font bumper. I will check fuses in the morning, if all ok, I may have to make an apt at the dealer.

Thanks again.

I just searched AudiWorld using "secondary air injection" and got 500 hits. Sounds like it might be a common issue. Do a search and see if there is a common cause, such as vacuum hose leaks.

Thank you. I did not think of using the code description for the search instead of using the code itself plus I only searched the A7 group. This morning I did not hear anything that would sound like my pump coming on. Not that I would expect much since I suppose some noises can be avoided in the A7 design but will search again and add my findings.

Thank you all for the information. Yesterday I looked around the engine bay trying to identify where the air pump was. I think I found it just behind the bumper on the driver side of the car pretty far down. I was able to reach it to feel the condition of the hoses and all that. I could not tell if anything was wrong. I tried to shake it a bit to see if it was secured, it was. This morning, I started the car to go to work and the CEL was extinguished and has not come back up. If it does not I suspect a bad connection or a connection hampered by the water from the severe rain we had for several days here, time will tell.

I want to thank you all for the suggestions on this topic, I appreciate it.

You're welcome. I have the same vintage A7 and this is the first I have heard of a secondary air pump problem. I didn't know VW/Audi injected air into the cat converter when cold.
