2012 A7 sidelight

(assuming this is for the front ones)
Take off the wheel well cover just enough to get your hand in the finder.
You then have to push to pins in and push out the light with the force being on the side closest to you. (because there is a lip on the side marker when you put it back in, like on a battery cover for a tv remote)
Then lastly (once popped out) you have to do a slight twist to free the bulb and harness.
Below is the replacement bulbs I used:
sylvaina 2827LL

I was actually able to take out the sidelight without taking off the wheel cover. Just stick a nail in between and wiggle it until it's loose. Like ETAzero said, one has a lip, while the other side is a hard piece of plastic. Pull from the lip side, and once that is free, the other side will slip right off.

there is some type of plastic sheild cover inside of the taillight that wont allow the bulb to go in
