I test drove a '14 A6 which would shut down automatically if you left the engine running but got out of the car. It could be turned off by the dealer, which I had him do and it was no longer a nuisance.

In some U.S. MY2013 and 2014 models, Audi enabled the coding for this "feature" that would shut the engine off when opening the driver door (at some point later they disabled it, most likely due to owner complaints). My 2013 A6 came from the factory with it enabled. There is a way to disable this with a VCDS Vag-Com. Here is the coding (I can't vouch for it's accuracy as my dealer did mine for me).

Module 46
Long coding last byte is 0F; change it to 00
Press "Do It" (or "Save")
The engine should now continue to run when the driver door is opened.

The headlights will turn off after about 20 seconds but the LED lights stay on for like 20min... this only happens at night when the headlights were on.

Interesting... is this something the dealer can do is is this a "hack"?

Audi dealers don't use Vag-Com, they have there own dedicated software but yes, a dealer can change the coding as well as a consumer with access to a Vag-Com. It's not a "hack" per se, but one of the dozens of known coding changes available. My dealer did it for me but some may be reluctant to make coding changes.

In case you're not familiar with Ross-Tech's VCDS Vag-Com, it's a dedicated cable and software tool that links up to your car via the OBDII connector under the dash. It allows for changing many optional behaviors of different car systems as well as running a scan for faults when something isn't working properly. There are hundreds of AW threads on Vag-Com.

Did this change... thanks a bunch for the info. My buddy came over with the Vag-Com and sure enough was able to turn that off for me. The dealership said they would have to flash my ECU and id lose my tune so had him do it.
