MY2012 only has the rear-facing camera. I can't remember if the front and top-view cameras came in '13 or '14.
MY2012 also doesn't have the foot-wave/dance feature to open the hatch. Can't remember if that came in '13 or '14, but many that have it haven't been able to get it to work reliably anyway.
Also, MY2012 owners haven't been successful in doing the vag-com mod to display current gear and oil temp in the HUD and lap timer in the DIS.

In a nutshell, the "G"s indicate the speeds upon which the carriers move data to and from a device and the internet or a cel phone. The old 2G is very slow, 3G is multiples faster and 4G LTE can be much faster yet.
Your MMI Audi Connect modem is equipped to handle up to 3G speeds for data and T-Mobile provides 3G data to Audi Connect. MY2016 Audis now employ a 4G LTE modem used with AT&T.
Google "carrier connection speeds" for more info.
Bluetooth in the car is simply the wireless connection between your phone and the MMI for hands free operation (and music with Bluetooth Audio if available) and has nothing directly to do with the connection speed of your device or Audi Connect. Bluetooth Audio was added to most later model Audis that didn't already have it. If your car doesn't have the feature, there are aftermarket products that can add the functionality.

What is the modem used for I guess is a more direct question. Beyond bluetooth capabilities that I am familiar with.

Thanks. I understand what 3G, 4G etc is on phones, I just dont understand the Audi features of the modem I guess. Again, my only experience is using Bluetooth in all my cars, and yes I install my own receiver with Bluetooth if my car/truck didnt come with it.

Your phone is powering this modem, based on the posts above it is limited to 2G depending on what carrier you use?
This is a nice to have, but not a deal breaker for me. I use a Blackberry which just seems to confuse most cars anyways. Its free, cant complain.
Looks like I will purchase a 2012, unless the 2013 drops in price by March when my lease is up.
Thanks for all the input guys

Also, I was responding to your comment that you didn't have Bluetooth Audio when I mentioned it as an aftermarket add on, not for Bluetooth phone which you apparently have.

My 2013 A5 does not have Auci connect. Only BT. That is why I am asking about these features. I am getting rid of my A5 and upgrading to an A7 and want to understand the differences between 2012 and 2013 to ensure what I am missing out on by purchasing a 2012.
My A5 does not allow any type of streaming music unless it is wired. Only BT capability is phone calls. I do not have navigation in my car, I use my phone GPS when needed.

My understanding is that myowdee is a little confused between Audi Connect and Bluetooth connectivity. Hence that little blurb aims to address that, esp coming from an A5

In case it helps clarify the possibilities, I use Audi Connect and two Bluetooth signals and AMI cable in the following way:
1) Car built-in bluetooth -to- Blackberry (primarily for work calls)
2a) Audi Connect -to- iPhone4 (no cell service, only for apps) -to- Escort Radar bluetooth module (syncs with Escort Live app)
2b) Audi Connect -to- iPhone4 (no cell service, only for apps) -to- Audi AMI cable (allows app audio, including streaming music, to output to sound system)
