I dropped off my car yesterday for the steering wheel noise that didn't go away after the dealer replaced the entire steering column. Today I was told that they wanted to replace the seat belt because the airbag light came on. Why would all of a sudden the airbag light would come on and what does that have to do with the seat belt?

There is a sensor in the seatbelt mount, that senses whether the seatbelt is in use or not. If the belt is not in use (no passenger in the seat) the airbags around that seat do not deploy. As it is part of the airbag system, if for some reason it is not working right, the airbag light will come on to indicate that some component of the system is malfunctioning.

I just find in odd that a sensor not related to the steering column would go bad all of a sudden. Plus, the dealer said they are replacing the seat belt, not sure which part of the seat belt.
