Default Car Beeping/Chirping Question

I just picked up an A7 (2012 Prestige) a few weeks back so I'm still getting used to it.

Last night, I had it parked in my driveway while I washed it and the entire time I was washing it, the car kept making the beep/chirp that it does when you lock the doors but at a seemingly random interval. I checked to make sure the button wasn't getting pressed in my pocket.

Does anyone know why it would do this?

Odds are you were touching the door handles which kept locking and unlocking the car. Enjoy the new car!

Take the fob out of your pocket next time you wash.

Yes....Put the FOB inside of your car, that way when you accidentally touch the door sensors it won't unlock/lock while you wash your car.

Good to know. I was wondering if the car had an impact sensor. I assumed it didn't. But the spray from the hose made me think otherwise. SO, keep the key in the car/house or don't wash it. So many choices!

I had to hand wash mine to get the dust off the wheels followed by a multi-stage wax. So far so good on the dust not sticking. But that damn bird that pooped on my car today has a treat in store for him if I can find him.

Default I have had five Audis in four years...

They all do it.. its not just "touching" the handles physically. If you are near enough and the wet brush and water stream complete a circuit, you will get the beeping and incessant locking and unlocking. Leave the key in the car and you should be good to go.

Life was so simple before excessive technology made it "convenient". We could easily shed 200 pounds and $5-10K if we could eliminate some of these unnecessary "helpers". However, they add profit at the time of sale and after sale business through maintenance…

Happy detailing

Eric
