Default Carbon build-up in my 2012 A7... Advice?

After learning the symptoms I've seen in my car (2012 A7 90k mi)... Low Idle, slow acceleration response, Needing multiple starts from cold, and a trans light coming on once, I took it to the dealer and they told me it was carbon buildup.

Now something like this, I was sure my extended warranty would pick up the tab of nearly 2k. Turns out, my warranty won't cover the expense so I'm asking:

Is there a less expensive way to fix this issue? I'm not experienced enough to DIY and I don't wanna pay the retail $1850 to fix at the dealer... Isn't there some sort of middle ground solution here?

Thanks everybody!

I believe that carbon buildup should be covered by Audi's special carbon warranty - I think it is up to 100k miles. In addition, they have a less invasive procedure now which should be much less expensive than 2k. However, they will only cover it if it triggers the check engine light.

Try doing a search for carbon buildup warranty, perhaps in the A6 forums.

where are you located, you can try to find a shop that will do the walnut treatment which is better than the chemical only treatment. I found a spot here in SD for $600 for my A4 and $500 for a my Q7, dont know why the Q7 is cheaper since its a V6.
