as you are all aware, the MMI handles contacts a bit differently than the android or apple software. setting a number to default, simply causes it to occupy spot # 1 in the list.
There are a series of somehwat confusing icons assigned to numbers based upon business/private/none, and landline/cell. while it is tempting to assign a cell phone to private/cell, try none/cell - the icon is much more recognizable as a mobile number, same with private/landline - none/landline gives you a simple 'house' icon

I have been setting default for everyone as cell, so all first numbers are consistent
