I have a 2013 P+ with 19" wheels and there is no harshness in the ride at all. The obvious tradeoff is a more comfortable ride vs improved handling.

The base model in all trims comes with 19" 5-spoke V-design wheels. The 19" sport package has 19" 7-double-spoke wheels. 18" wheels are possible in the base A6, but there are no 18" wheels available for the A7.

Guys:

Planning on ordering this week, but had one more question: would anyone opt for the A8-style contour seats over the Prestige comfort seats? I'm heading to the dealer today to sit in both, but won't be able to test them over the long haul. I have heard complaints about seat comfort but mostly towards the base seats in the P+, and wondering if I should opt for the other seats? Only negative is I have heard the Valcona leather doesn't wear as well...

I would order them. I'm guessing they will be $2,000.

Sat in both and the upgraded seats were significantly better.

Ordered my car yesterday:

Florette Silver
Nougat
Contour seats
Cold Weather
Soft close doors

Drove the A7 twice and I think this is one of the best looking sedans out there. Unfortunately, every one I found to drive has the 20" rims with lower profile tires and just couldn't get over the harsh road noise and jittery ride of the car over bridges and road imperfections. Tough coming from the serene (and numb) drive of the Lexus.

I really liked the GS f-sport that I drove but have difficulty getting over the ho-hum looks. I think the power is adequate in sport mode and if GS came in the exterior package of the A7, I would buy it in a second.

Anyone out there ever drive a A7 without a sports package or 20" wheels? Don't think they exist....

The 2016 A7 has better looking standard wheels so I am considering ordering a 2016 without the sports package:

I ordered my A7 with 19s and no sports package. Ride is compliant, still sporty. I found the 20s too harsh although the non sports package is much softer than with. Also to be factored in is tires, and pressure of tires.

Mine has 19s with the sport package. No complaints about the ride feel. Never use the flappy paddle things. Most of my driving is on hilly/twisty terrain without a lot of stop/go. But it came with Pirelli tires which I think add quite a bit of noise (compared to the Continentals on my old A6) when on the highway.

Compared to my Q5 my A7 with Sport and Black Optic (20") is not as harsh. My A7 came with Pirelli P-Zero tires and I'll be swapping them for Continental ExtremeContact DWS as I need all season tires.
