DIY RS7 grill install on A7 Prestige without bumper removal
#42
I'm struggling to find a RS7 grill that will work with front parking sensors and front camera. I would appreciate if someone knows where to find one that works with the front camera. Apparently some of the after market grills has issues with the camera. I want black grill with black Audi rings.
Another questions: I took my car to workshop to have windows and rear lights tinted. Asked them to paint the rear Audi rings in black but they said it's a lot of work to get it off. Surely that's held on with just tape/glue?

Hi seriously considering this as I done it to my previous A5 and liked the look.
Can I ask how you got to bottom 4 bolts left and right?
Was is trays off bottom of car?
Also when 10 bolts removed does it just pop off?
Did you mark bumper because some bolts were left in?
Thanks.
As per previous update can the rubber be bought in UK?
Attached a pic of car as it stands just now.
Thanks for any updates on this
Only had car about a month so far.
Loving it.

I googled for installation instructions, pretty much all of them said you had to remove the bumper and I wasn't comfortable taking the whole bumper off because i wasn't sure how the bumper would look as far as realignment goes.
I am pretty amateur as far DIY goes. but i just jumped on it after i received the grill from eBay.
I was very suprised to find out, that there are about 10 screws that holds it to the bumper!!! pretty much overkill IMO.
Tools Needed was:
25 Torx
a small rotating ranch
and a bottle of water to get myself going.
my tools. i couldn't see where the screws were, so i used my fingers to feel the center of the screws, and positioned the torx to fit in them with my other hand.
4 screws on left. the top two screws are the most difficult to get to, i spent about 15 mins on the top 4 screws
4 screws on right
2 in the center
prep for spraying the silver plastic
sprayed with Rustoleum Black paint
took it back to Home Depot for a refund.
i jused used 6 screws while installing the mesh. since the top 4 were just too difficult to reach.
the price i paid for being careless while removing the OEM grill. Will have to drive by a bodyshop, see if they can just scrub it and paint it to perfection.

Update on removal that may help
This may help.
I removes both plastic clips from top panel.
Just pop out centres with a flat screwdriver then take 2nd piece off.
Plastic part that coveres head light slots into centre section your removing.
Start taking out screws my bottom 2 centre ones there was a pipe/cable that clipped in i popped out to get screws easier and just popped in at end again.
Top tip use new grill for hole reference and i used my phone to see them also (video mode with light on)
I popped out the top clips/tabs then the bottom ones.
Once out just pop out park sensors.
I then painted behind grill as mines was white like car.
Not a hard job just ackward finding screws.
As per the guide 4 screws either side but 2nd ones down were a nighmare which i've marked in green.
The 2 in centre of the badge I had to get a screwdriver style torex as mines would not fit in though small hole.
So 14 screws all in to come out.
Took me 3 hours as those 2nd from the top were a nightmare to remove but getting them back in was a lot worse.
My back is now killing me.
Done now pics later.
