Default Fuel Rail Recall - Question

I have a MY2012 A7 with the 3.0 engine and never received a recall notice. Does anyone know why some A7's were immune to the recall? I have noticed on several occasions the smell of gas in the garage, but only when it was extremely cold in the garage. I have the snowblower sitting in the garage and thought that was the culprit, but it got me thinking. A couple of other A7 owners I know here locally were impacted by the recall. Am I just lucky?

The Nationahal Highway Traffic Safety Administation website lets you look up recall results by VIN here: https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/

Hope this helps.

The problem is with engines that were built with components made in a specific time period. The problem was discovered, the problem parts redesigned and after a certain date only the improved parts were used in building the engines.

So the recall is only for vehicles that have engines containing the problem parts.
