Probably similar to my Odyssey... in the very small space behind the 3rd row. And on the roof.

Yep. Not even sure if the Q7 has a 3rd row.

Just bought a used 2016 A7 in April, just in time for my oldest to come home from college which meant I had a 19, 17 and 16-year old at the house for 4 months. All of us, including wife are between 5'10" and 6'1'. The car I was replacing for me was a 2008 MDX which we kept as a family/kid vehicle. So here's how it went:

When it was just two of them going with us out to eat or errands, A7 every time. If all 3 were going, back to the MDX most times. The back seat width isn't a problem and surprisingly they didn't complain about the headroom. Main issue is the footwells. I forgot to mention that the kids have got big feet. 2 boys wear size 12 and 13, and the girl wears a men's 10 1/2. so the person in the middle had to kind of fir their feet in while straddling the transmission hump. Still, we did the MDX because it was available not because the A7 was unworkable. They would have been fine for short trips in the A7. Question is how often are all 3 going to be with you. I know with my kids' schedules those stars don't align very often.

Also, we did a long trip this summer and simply rented a Suburban XL, so we had the 3rd row and plenty of storage to boot. Tip: if you have a Capps Rental facility in your city, try them for SUV rentals like that. All they carry is that one model so you won't get stuck with an SUV that isn't really full size like can happen at most of the major car rental places. Only drawback is they don't do unlimited mileage so it will depend on the distance and number of days you're going. We went from Dallas to Estes Park over 9 days and it was $300 cheaper than best deal I could get elsewhere, even going over the limit by 100 miles. Sorry for the digression, but its a good solution for those long trips rather than buying a vehicle based on something you do once or twice a year, and with teenagers, may be doing less frequently as college comes into the picture.

I love the A7.
