I bought a 3 spoke mfsw w/o heat with an airbag . Is it safe to assume that when I take my old wheel off that I take the clock spring off as well? Do I need to recode in vcds or does it even matter since the new wheel doesnt have heat?

I'm no expert but I have done a bunch of research about replacing a non heated to a heated steering wheel. In that case, I have to replace the clockspring because my non heated wheel clock spring does not have the electrical connection needed.

Since you are adding a non heated wheel, I would say that you do not need to change the clock spring.

You may want to change it anyways. Clock springs with the heated wheel connection are selling for $150-200 on eBay.
