Default Vibration on idle

2012 A7 vibration during idle. Took it to Audi and they said one of the engine mounts were bad. They replaced it and it helped a million but there is still a slight vibration when the car is stationary. It vibrates enough that you can't rest your head on the headrest without it buzzing your eyes and ears. Any advice?

Did they change all of them or only one?

Sounds like the others are getting bad too. I would go to a reputable shop specialized in German cars and get them replaced for a fraction of the price Audi would charge you.

Ok thank you so much! I'll do that. This vibration is driving me nuts.

These cars have some degree of excessive idle vibration (more than other cars i've owned). I don't think to the extent of buzzing your eyes and ears though..

I have the same low RPM vibration. Anything above 1200 it's fine but under that it's pretty aggressive. The dealer found two broken mounts and an intake that's leaking. I have actually contemplated doing the mount myself but I do need to find a good shop to take care of it. I also have a vacuum pump seal oil leak.

I don't think that is normal. I have a 2013 A6 3.0 which has done less than 18k kms and I can assure you that it is the silkiest 3.0 I've ever experienced. No vibrations. Minimal engine noise on the inside.

I agree with you. My early build A7 3.0TFSI S tronic is so smooth at idle I have to look at the tacho to know whether it is running or not. My S5, with same drivetrain (almost the same, slight difference in centre differential gear set), is not as smooth, but still fine. Although near the redline, the situation reverses.

These are 90 degree V6 engines, rather than 60 degree, so require a balance shaft to smooth them out. Possibly leads to some variation in low rpm smoothness, but not to the level discussed here. The engine mounts clearly play a significant role - as should the transmission mount as well?

So near the redline, your S5 is smoother? That's nice. I've redlined my A6 only twice in all the time I've had it and it was smooth both the times. That's why I love this engine so much. All the other 3.0s either become loud or rough but not this one. Smooth and comparatively quiet even at the redline.

BTW, I think the s5 has a slight difference, either in the map or the exhaust system which is why it sounds sporty and feels much faster. That could be why it feels rougher?

Engine and transmission mounts definitely play important roles in vibration. Worn mounts will cause increased vibrations.
