Default Winter Tire Sizes

What sizes are you guys currently running for a dedicated winter set up?

Tirerack is only showing 255/45R18 for their A7 wheel and tire packages.

Is anyone running the same that can provide feedback or recommend a better set up?

I use the Audi OEM winter wheels, 8Jx19 with 235/40R19 tyres. In my case, Michelin PA4. A good set up that works well in a variety of conditions. If you live at the top of a ski resort for all of winter, then you may want something more dedicated to running on snow and ice (but then not very good on tarmac). Strong wheel too, after 5 winters they still look like new.

I like my A7 on 20" wheels, and almost cry putting on the 19s for winter. Shallow, I know

That Tirerack sizing reflects (in Europe, not sure what happens in the US) the base A7 wheel fitment, and not what Audi consider as a specialised winter wheel fitment. Apart from perhaps reducing risk of pothole damage, not sure I see any advantage of using a small, but wide wheel fitment in winter. You may as well use your existing wheels and put winter tyres on those?

I have the 17 inch offering from Tire Rack. More side wall to absorb pot holes. I added the red wheel tape.

Wheels - Rial Kodiak 17 X 7.5 ET 28 - Low pressure cast - 23 pounds
Tires - Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT 235/55 - R17

Default 255/40R19

I am running 255/40R19 on my 2016 A7 with Blizzaks LM32. Its the best combo size tire for the car. 18 inch are too small in my opinion. I use 20s during spring to fall. Here is picture below.

The rims are hartmann which are super strong and resilient to pot hole damage. No issues on both my A7 and my brother's A6 with 19 inch hartmann during winter time.

Those OEM wheels are the polished forged alloys made by Fuchs. I'm not brave enough to use mine in winter, the clear coat seems quite thin.

Currently running 245/45/19 on 19x8.5 wheels. Can't complain with this setup, still some sportiness to the look and a little more comfortable than my 20's.
