How did you get them to bolt up?

Machinned the outer part of the brackets where they bolt on down 5mm and had them drill out the treads so they bolt up like oem. OEM S6 bolt on the brackets and our D2's are opposite.

I'll get pics of them asap, really a simple and GREAT upgrade....18inch wheel minimum, got about 5mm space left between calipers and rims.

Nice job, those suckers look huge 15" = 380 mm...wow! Betcha you could do stoppies with those.

If you are looking for a cheap straight bolt-up, D3 A8 and S8 brakes bolt right up to the Facelift uprights. I'm running D3 A8 brakes on my 2000 A8 with Stock fat fives.

Cheap, easy and it doesn't require a rim swap for an A8 with 17" rims. Doesn't cost much more than a brake job. quattroworld.com Forums: D2 to D3 brake upgrade notes

I also have a set of potato peelers so I may yet got a smidge bigger with D3 S8 brakes...but I've got a couple of BIG projects to do before that one.

Thanks guys, really easy mod and D2 stops on a dime now.

Will get pics when i instale the rears in a couple of weeks. Just need to find a set of S8 D2 rear calippers to bolt on to the S6's carriers.

Been a while but finaly got to taking a couple pics of the brakes while i was waiting on parts for the S8 steering rack swap.

You can see that i had my machinist cut alot off the caliper bracket, in fact i miss calculated and had him remove 3mm to mutch so i had to weld spacers on the back of the knuckles for proper alignment...correct amount to have machined down is 5mm.

Since they're there have him remove the treads in the 4 bolt holes(No need for them anymore since you will be bolting brackets to the knuckle like oem, not like the 2007 S6 does)

Cut/adjust caliper bolts to the right size.

Rest is plug and play.

cheers!

This is a pretty slick upgrade. So you used the S6 calipers, rotors and brackets? Just clarifying. This is something I would potentially do since I am just about to buy an '01 S8. Would be a fun modification. Any performance testing on these big brakes yet?
Good job, looks great! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, my pleasure, yes all comes from th 2008 S6 V10... i have these in front and S8 D2 big brakes on the back. Brakes like a moterfXXXX ;p

Unforunatly it wont fit the S8 since your knuckle is designed to bolt brembo calippers. You'd have to fit the A8 knuckle and i dont really see the use. They're must be a Porsche big brake set up for the S8 like cayenne TT?!?

Be careful when mix and match different sizes front and rear that are not designed to work together, as the brake balance may/will be off. Could lead to unexpected behavior in critical braking situations.
