my deal with my mechanic is I bring parts.

Good example is my recent S8 prop seal job.
Can you imagine the amount of time his shop would have wasted to research the seal change issue?

I ordered the part for $20 and they popped it in while servicing tranny fluid and filter in same job. Same issue on VIN splits, engine codes, etc. You should know what parts your car needs and not count on mechanic to be expert on it.


There is too much variation in quality so I prefer to do my research and mechanic appreciates not having to spend time on it - so my repair price is right.

This deal has been working so far.
