The one I bought was off a 2004-6 touareg, Same part number:077 133 185 M. it's in really good shape, no corrosion and all parts working, just needs a bit of cleaning.

At first I was hoping to just use the spring holder parts, but now the whole thing's dropping in, after a careful cleaning.

ok. I was thinking of parts to have when I do work on me. the arms on teh outside, the vaccuum pods/servos. For the $75 total I was hoping to have it for parts.

Fire damage? I thought it looked like snow and ice on the car.

Great tip. Mine were frozen and would not move. Ended up using a small gear puller to remove the casting from the shaft. The casting is junk, full of porosity. I did end up crossing the flaps and fought to get it all back together correctly. Works great. Thanks again for the tip and excellent write up.

SilverD2, great write up on the manifold valves. I just followed this to fix the ones on my 2003 A6 4.2 with 140K miles. They were a little gummed up but a little penetrating oil applied over a couple of days loosened them up. I used 320 grit sanding paper to clean up the arms and the inside of the casting, and used a little high temp lube on the shafts when I put it back together. I found that bolting up the casting after the arm was attached worked better as you could move it to decrease the amount of spring tension required before you could slip the arm over the shaft.

I have a 4.2 V8 Touareg. I did all you showed on this post (great work). After I put everything back I realized that one of my intake manifold change over valve(vacuum pods) was broken. I just replaced both, but when I turn my engine on it take 3-4 seconds for vacuum pods to evacuate(Stage 1 on the graph). Then they seem to work; I took the engine to 3500-rpm and they go to Stage 2, at 5500 rpm they look like Stage 3. But then when I turn the engine off the vacuum pods do not inflate. It is possible that I did something wrong? why the vacuum pods don't inflate? my check engine is still on, I did not drive the vehicle just yet.
Thank you!

Since my last posting I had repulled the plastic arms and the springs. Looks like they were installed right. I have found that a few hoses were bad(probably from heat, I live in Vegas) and I replaced them. Still the pods don't inflate when I turn the engine of. When I pull vacuum lines behind the pods, they inflate. Also when I pull vacuum from the vacuum check valve(white side) the pods inflate; when I pull the hose on the black side of the check valve they don't inflate. Is this right?
My only problem now is that when I stop the car the pods are staying in, they don' t release, but in the morning before I start the car they are fully inflated.
The check engine light just turned off this morning.
Thank you!

I have been told by the dealer that is normal for those podes not to inflate right away after I shut the engine down.

^^^^ What he said, they should immediately deflate, i test mine by unplugging the electric vacuum solenoid while the engine is running, then plug them back in.
