aftermarket stereo?
So has anyone put an aftermarket headunit in the A8? i know that it is a bit wider than the average headunit but i want rid of my tape deck. I dont want to install a normal width one cus there will be odd space on either side of the unit. Does any company make extra wide headunits? The only solutions i have come up with are 1. buy an OEM CD Player. 2. Rip it out and put NAV in (too expensive tho). or three, suck it up and deal. Pics would be much appreciated.

Re: aftermarket stereo?
u can make a face plate rather easily out of black plexi glass to fill the space up.
Id like to know if there is an adpater so u can actually use aftermarket decks.

OEM Audi CD players are usually about $180 on ebay
You need the 13 pin changer to work with your radio<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-05-AUDI-A4-A6-A8-TT-S4-GENUINE-CD-CHANGER-W-2-MAGS_W0QQitemZ260000562135QQihZ016QQcategoryZ33652 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">Here's one on ebay, put in a snipe for $200, you'll win it</a></li></ul>

Re: aftermarket stereo?
I have the OEM CD Changer in the trunk, i just dont particularly want the OEM Tape Deck. i'd like to have an indash CD player and then use an ICE LINK (ie. Denison) to hook up a cable for my iPod and delete the Tape deck and Changer all together. But i wasnt sure if there were any other options than the OEM replacements.

Here's mine with Kenwood Unit /MP3 player

I have done some searching myself, the factory head is normal width, but with a wide face, so ...
the best we can hope for is a clean install that doesn't look like a hack job from some mass retailer. Or perhaps find a nav faceplate and install a double din set up without having to buy the whole audi nav setup.

These guys are realy good. Most stereo places were scared to touch an A8 but these guys had no problems. They installed the head unit, a Alpine sub and amp, sub level knod, and integrated the hands free kit. By just adding a 12" sub and head unit, and without bose equalization, it really sounds like a different stereo. I'm not going to win any stero shoot outs, but it really sounds good for my taste.
