Another start up problem again
Having a problem strating up again in the cold weather. After 10 cranks it starts up rough. Drove off about a half mile start to hesitate gave gas and nothing. To cold outside to figure it out so I got it towed to a German auto mechanic. He fixed wires in gas pump assembly. Changed crank sensor again and nothing. Mechanic says no pulse to spark plugs. Trying to figure it out. Any help will do. Thanks.

Iv had similar problem with 1/3 or less fuel in the tank.I also coudnt fill up the tank automatically bcos the pump would cut off all the time...
Changed the purge canister valve and mpg went from 10mpg to 16mpg.
Also i can fill it up normally.Could have been that the trappeed fuel vapor affected the air/fuel mixture and caused the misfire.
Just guessing i am not an expert.

Dont forget to check the splice in the passenger side rail. I was loosing 3v after this splice, causing it not to start and when it did it would die at idle.
Cut it out, clean the wiring(leave it in baggies of vinegar) toss in a mechanical coupler, or solder style, and cover with heat shrink. I thought it was a battery too, it helped for a week. This was definitely the culprit.

Just got off the phone with the mechanic. He says he rewired the pump assembly it ran great for a few days then the car refused to start. Took pump out ran it out the car noticed that it will run then stop so he thinks there is a defect in the pump. He's going to put a new pump in and see what happens. Hopefully it gets figured out.

It is common when the pumps die that they get jammed up. Parts of the worn commutator break off and jam up the pump. Sometimes to get home you can reverse the wires and run the pump backwards breifly to unjam them.
Make sure your mechanic knows to get the special pump for the D2, the common Audi pump will not supply fuel to the remote scavenge pumps and the car runs out of gas with 1/3 tank remaining. Also he should have a gallon or two of gas on hand to add to the tank and fill the pump basket to prime the system.
The Pump is about $175 or so by itself or $900 or so with the artificial limb that it mounts into.

i get misfires with 1/3 or less tank and the car wont run!
Just pour some fuel and i am good.So thats due to the uncorrect pump you say?
I did have pump replaced recently.
