Audi made around 105,000 D2 models in total, there are 550 D2 S8 models currently taxed/insured and running in the UK.

2001 S8

Audi's Customer Relations Specialist just informed me that there were 418 2001 Audi S8's imported to the USA. Of that 106 had black exterior and 53 of those were black exterior and black interior.

So that means I have 1 of 53. Crazy!!!

Hope this helps anybody looking for 2001 S8 numbers.

Looks like after some digging on this tread, there seems to be some pretty solid numbers for D2 S8 in the USA.

2001 - 418
2002 - 482
2003 - 300

That's a total of 1200 D2 S8 in the USA and figure 10% of those cars are no longer running because they were not maintained or driven in to the ground. So optimistically there are 1080 somewhere in the USA.

Next time you see a D2 S8 give them a wave. Who knows how long it will be until you seen another one : )

Interesting build numbers. I have another 2001 S8's that are 1 of 53 as well. These D2 S8's are hard to find. Just got mine a couple weeks ago, semi-locally. Only a few D2's for sale in the country. Thanks for sharing the info.

2001 was 813 in the US

I didn't realize the rarity when I first got mine. A week after purchase I parked at a store and saw one just like mine (01 S8 with silver exterior). I should had taken a photo.
