Which Coolant Crossover Pipe 0-Ring for 2003 S8
I'm having issues determining which O-Ring is the correct one for my 2003 S8.
ETKA shows both N-905-607-01 (30x5mm) & N-909-125-01 (32x5mm) but it shows the VIN Split as being 4D-Y-007 001. That must be an A8 Vin# as my VIN is #4D93N001790
Here's the issue. I originally purchased the 30mm O-rings from the dealer but later realized they were smaller than the ones that popped out so then I got the 32mm. But having both side by side they both fit. The 30mm is tight on the inside of the lip. The 32mm is tight on the outside.
Most A8 ETKA type diagrams I've looked at show the crossover tube PN#077121071BH or 077121071BC It looks like Image #1 with the tube for Part #1 going to the front of the engine being integrated.
My car has a different style cross over tube where that tube is a separate part. The only diagrams I can find that match are for a Touareg. PN# 077121071BP. See image #2. But even this isn't quite right as the tubes don't match. Honestly I can't find a match for my exact tube anywhere.
I've also included two images of my actual crossover pipe and a closeup of the larger O-Ring seated. Note the gap on the inner diameter. The smaller one is opposite and leaves a gap around the outside.
Any help appreciated. I don't know why I'm surprised that the S8 has parts that ETKA doesn't show. Way to Go Audi.

UPDATE: I Found the exact Pipe I have under A6/S6. PN# 077121071BD
But still lists both O-Rings. Which one is correct.

You need to learn to read VINs and part searches become easy.
Please see my answer over on the QuattroWorld forum >>
quattroworld.com Forums: With the exception of only a few parts, the '01 -'03 A8/S8 use the same parts >>

There's no difference between A8 and S8 VINs. The split for that part is on a Y chassis. Yours is a 3 chassis (4D93N001790) so you need the later ones
Transmission surgery at the same time?

Awesome, Seems so Easy. Makes me wonder why the dealer..
.... screwed up and ordered me the early seal the first time. I gave them my VIN Number. ;-)
Thanks for the quick reply! Now I can get to work getting everything re-assembled. Get the transmission put back together and get her running again.

Yup! It was more of a "While the Transmission is out, why don't I do x,y,z. The list was long. But started off as just the usual, rear main, rear cam plugs. But then I decided to go ahead and do valve cover gaskets, Tensioner Seals, Cam Seals, and since the T-Belt on my S6 just snapped (I Knew better that to drive it on an unknown mileage belt) I figured I'd better do T-Belt as well. Plus the car came from New York so I've spent maybe $200.-- on OE Fasteners to replace rusty ones, and on powdercoating rusty parts. Then decided to do all coolant hoses and pipes on the back of the engine just because they are hard to access when transmission is in there.
Tranny should be back together next weekend. At least minute I decided to replace the steel discs and not just the friction discs. Turns out they are pretty cheap. This is my first Tranny Rebuild so I'm not doing everything. Just A/B Clutch and bearings. Had the usual oil seal failure that was causing it to lose pressure and not engage 1st. I wish I felt confident enough to go all the way in and replace the F clutch, but I don't. For the first go, I figured I'd replace what I know is gone, (And Torque converter of course) and hope for the best. That and I read that in 2002 ZF improved the F-clutch and fixed the cause of the failures they were having.
