Default fog lights

Has anyone had any luck sourcing fog lights for a 2000 A8L? Mine were missing when I bought the car 4 yrs ago and was fortunate to find a source (fellow member of this board) who had the grilles and everything.

It really made the car look good but then my car made love to a icy, crunchy snow bank, toasting the lower valence, grilles and crunching the lights. I did sell the car but I'll looking for fog lights for him? I have found some recoditioned grilles for him but need the lights. Am I alone in this search?

I know the production date (pre 5/2005) is important for the grilles. Does the production date make a difference for the fog lights assemblies also?

The assemblies are different on 2000 than on 2001 and later...different mounting and 01 and later use H7 bulbs, instead of tiny H3's.

2000 part # 4D0941699 (left) ***700 (right)

2001-03 part # 8D0941699B (L)***700B (R)

You can Google those #s to find lotsa suppliers and used ones.

Aftermarket/OEM companies make the assemblies cheaper.
Here's one of the newer types (H7..01 on) made by Valeo (oem lights on many audis) >>

And a set of older type >>

Thanks Silver. Mine (new owner now) was the early model. I did see those on ebay and must have been looking at the newer ones which didn't look correct.

I'll pass this on to the new owner. FHI, I could have sold a dozen D2s. I put it on Craigs list for $2500 and full disclosure of 230,000 miles, coming up on t-belt service in next 5,000. Of the 20 some people who responded I sent a full description and list of every service done in last 5 yrs. In less than a week, I got full price in cash for it. Before he picked it up, another guy called wanting it. When I told him someone was coming to get it, he wanted to bid the price up. I told him no and had already agreed to first guy.

Next time, (if there is a next time), I'll list it on ebay.

FYI, I moved up to the D3 forum. My 2000 was white/cream color. The 2005 I bought is black. A concern of mine is. Once i go black, will I ever go back? HA. For the easily offended out there, you can assume I am talking about cars.
