Default how much would a power steering pump replacement cost??

my wooos continue... after a diagnostic of my kazoo sounding engine, it was determined that the power steering pump had failed (although it seems as if i'm not experiencing any problems turning/driving)... they said the bearings were shot and it was leaking (but there was PLENTY of fluid in the PS reservoir).

now my question... how involved is this repair/replacement and what has been the typical repair cost.. i should have bought the PS pump myself and saved the $200+ bucks, because i could have gotten it for about $300, they're gonna charge me $510 for it.... total cost including labor (to remove the from end of the car and radiator) -----> $1400!!!! does that seem reasonable

A dealer is the best place to go if you don't want to do the work yourself. The guarantee and knowledge that they will be there a few months later if the part fails or something related to the repair job starts to leak.

You have to weigh the cost factor into the equation of course.

Default does the entire front end of the car need to come off to replace the power steering pump??

my service center (independent) and really generally honest and reliable, is quoting me about 7-8hrs for labor... does that sound right??

For other people that might find this helpful.
SEARS as of right now charges 568.99$ this would include the pump/ belt and labor. Another place i checked was BROADWAY TIRE there LABOR was 190.40$ plus tax. He couldnt find a pump at the time i called but they install if you bring your own part.

Labor varies by location and shop, but yes 76$/hr is a little to much

Well its 2.5 hours labor, average shop rate is 90 an hour. 225 + pump which run like 300$. So like 600ish sounds fair. 1400$ sounds like a complete ripoff
