Hey guys I have a 99 a8 and have a 7-8 misfire, I searched where the icm is located and it said they are behind the windshield washer fluid cap under the plastic cover. Problem on my car the icm isn't there.
The build date is 6/99 is the location of the facelift different?
Any help would be great

What country?

Is it a facelift with 40V motor? ...if so, there is no ICM. Each coil has its own built in power output stage, which get signals directly from the ECM.

I'm in the US in Southern California 4.2 40v. How do you tell if it's a facelift

If you have a 40V engine, it's a facelift ... there is NO pre-facelift 40V.

If the car was sold in North America, you have a 2000 A8 , not a 99.

...and No ICM.

Got it thank you for the info this is my first a8.
One last question since I'm going to replace some coil packs can I run any of the newer
four wire coils?
