Longer crank time to start??
Hi guys, so on my '02 - S8, 217,000 miles...lately it seems to be cranking over longer to start. Sometimes I will get the overcrank code. I have replaced the fuel pump about 2 years ago. I'm thinking I need to check and change the fuel filter as I'm not sure when that was done last. I cant seem to locate info on how to do that on here!? Also, any other ideas that it could be? I put fuel injector cleaner in it from time to time.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. My battery, I have no idea. I have had the car for 5 years and never had any issues. It spins over quick and fine. My car also has the solar sunroof, and the massive D8 looking cat battery in the trunk. Not sure if that battery is standard or only with the solar sunroof option!?
I also replaced the fuel pump about 2 years ago.
Where can I find instructions to change the filter!?

There is no real information needed.
You will need wrenches as large as 22mm if I remember correctly. You need to do the fuel filter change when the car has sat for 8 hours, otherwise you will get a bit of fuel spray from the residual fuel pressure. Be prepared for fuel to spray anyway. It will only be for a few seconds, but a liter of fuel may come out.
There are only two fasteners: one for each end of the fuel filter. They are called banjo bolts. The problem I have when I change my fuel filter is that it always leaks after I change the filter. Don't be surprised that after you start the car for the first time fuel drips from either end. Don't be scared if it's just dripping, keep the car running and crawl underneath and keep tightening the banjo bolts until the leaks stop.
It really could have been better designed in my opinion using O-rings, but it's not. In any case, before you install the new fuel filter, you can blow through it and see how easy it is. I wipe off my old fuel filters and try blowing through them after I change them to get an idea how clogged they get. Some get pretty clogged.
Mahle makes the OEM filter for your A8 and the fuel filter is even stamped with a manufacturer date. I buy my through Amazon or Autohausaz. Mahle p/n KL36
