Default Drag race time

Had the chance to drag race my A8 yesterday at the Lonestar Motorsports Park in Sealy TX. First time at the drag strip. It was fun. I got in line and next to me this new 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo pulled up, sounding mean and loud. I was thinking " Great, first time at the drag strip and I have to race the fastest launching road car in the world! lol"

Well, no surprise there, he beat me easily, launch control on those Porsches is stunning.

My time was 15.3 sec with 91.5mph , the Porsche ran 11.06sec with 126mph.
We both got in line again right away and ended up racing each other again. I talked to him for a bit and he complained about not getting enough grip. All 4 wheels spinning. Anyways, times were just about the same like the first race.

After the Porsche, I was next to a new Z06 Corvette (the supercharged one). He ran a 12.8sec 1/4mile, mine was 15.4 sec.
I raced 4 times and my reaction times got better each time, starting out at 0.968sec and going down to 0.353sec. My 60 ft times were all in the 2.37-2.40 sec range. I ran in auto mode and in the manual shift mode and the times didn't differ.

Not bad times for a 15yr old A8 with 148k miles on the clock

Did the fan clutch make a lot of noise?

15 years old and 148k miles. How'd the transmission hold-up? I think that is the real question : )

BTW: Would have loved to seen a video of your runs.

The fan clutch didn't make any noise. I run an open exhaust and the car has a nice deep V8 sound when accelerating.

The transmission worked fine and still works great. Would be more fun to drag race in a manual, but it is what it is.

2 other, notable cars were a new S7, driven by a 70yr old guy who had just put down pipes on it and complained it wasn't any faster than it was before. He ran 11.6 sec!
The other was a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. That thing ran 9.62sec @152mph

If you get the bug, I've got a T-Type (S2) project, looking for a new home. I'd suggest playing on an 1/8 mile for the sake of your underwear BTW. pc
