Default New D2 owner. Fuel gauge issue

Hello! Just traded my B5 passat for a D2 A8.

First of all this issue has been googled, and others problems are similar. Could not find the exact same problem.

Well. When i fill up any amount of fuel, the meter will move accordingly. But the next time i cold start the car then the gauge will show empty and turn on my fuel warning light.

Sometimes this goes away when i restart my engine after the car has warmed up, but sometimes it only adjusts after the next fill.

Could this be a fuel level sensor issue? Is that located in the trunk somewhere? Easy fix/easy replacement? Could this be fuse related. Bad fuse or anything?

Thanks for your input.

Well i just filled up about 25L which brought the gauge up to almost 1/3 full.
I've now driven ~100km doing 8-10l/100 with cruise control (23-30mpg) and my gas light already lit up!

There are 2 level senders in a D2, because it has a "saddle" tank...one on the right in the fuel pump module and one on the left that also includes the low fuel warning switch. When working properly, both sender readings are combined to get a correct level reading.

Sounds like one sender is not free for full travel.

Here's a couple of discussions from a far superior forum (QuattroWorld) on the subject >>>

Thankyou for your help once again! Really appreciate it. Going to start investigating this problem now.

By the way... my tank is showing completly empty today after being just on the gas light yesterday before leaving it for the night.

Forgot to say, but would it be worth the try to use some crc fuel system cleaner? Or is there a bigger chance that my other sender is just faulty.
