thank you. I'll check that manual out. I bought an Audi Service Manual that turned out to be useless... Unfortunately I am traveling for work now, so I will not be able to test anything again for a couple weeks.

I replaced both POS's and the problem appears to be solved. I still need to get it on a code reader to clear the existing faults, but it runs much smoother now, no more flashing check engine light and no more glowing red cat. thanks for all your help...
