Hi...my 2000 A8L D2 had the following issues (and fixes)...after I put a supercharger on it.change the HP from 300 to 400...
(1) gearbox started to slip-pop out of gear under acceleration. Turned out it was s worn O-ring...probably caused by me thinking tip-tronic was to be used as a gear lever..when it really is the same as a "mouse-click". Cost to R7R the gearbox in Australia $4K.
(2) My hydraulic shocks crapped out on rear. Audi price to replace $1,400 each ...solution...replace with Bilstein heavy duty shocks - around $350 for a pair. You will need to disable the fluid flow by capping off the lines
(3) My sun-roof leaked...check that out thoroughly...it can cost a lot to replace everything.
Otherwise...a nice car...regs, oscar in Sydney, straya.

Well,

No performance mods for me on this unit. Reliability is key.

I am going to have it inspected next week. (Anyone down in the Hamilton area want to check it out)

Owner says it has that output shaft gear oil leak. I am OK with that.

Heated steering wheel not working, which is par for the course.



Nervous as all hell though. Part of me wants them to find a problem so I back out. The other part wants it to be awesome.

I am close to Winnipeg so if its a go, I will put it on the train. Then I can pick it up from Winnipeg.

Default ZF 5 speed auto was notoriously bad...

Its not so much an audi thing as a zf thing. Any car that used this gearbox and its variants had a LOT of transmission issues. Jag, BMW, Audi used them and everyone of them has issues.... ZF did a lot better with the 6 speed autos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_5HP24_transmission
