Remanufactured Rear Caliper: Good or Bad?
Hey D2 Owners,
I just had 4 new tires (Continental DWS), new rear brake pads and a new driver's side TRW rear caliper installed. The driver's side rear caliper had seized up and was causing the car to shake.
I was informed that my passenger's side rear caliper is getting hung up and I will need to replace it in the near future. It's not causing any issues right now but I was told, by my mechanic who I trust and believe, not to use my e-brake, as this may cause issues.
My question is, is a remanufactured caliper a good way to go long term? (6 - 8 years worth of use) Or should I buy a new caliper and call it good? I would save 2 - 3 hundred dollars going the remanufactured route.
The two remanufactured calipers I'm currently looking at are A1 Cardone or Centric.
Any input would be appreciated.

Good or bad? Yes...luck of the draw on reman calipers. I've had good luck, others haven't. With healthy rear calipers, exercising the handbrake should keep them that way. The internal adjusters get sticky and corroded over time through lack of use and infrequent brake fluid changes

Personally I would have no problem going with a remanunfactured caliper. Depending on how much free time was available, I might try my hand at pulling it apart and fixing it myself.
I agree with Brian and Dan, find a trusted rebilder.

I ordered some reman rear calipers for my 97 A8Q from rockauto, due to the parking brake mechanism being seized. I think they were from Cardone or something like that. They work perfectly for me.
