The biggest factor for me in owning an Audi out of warranty is that I have an incredible independent Audi mechanic where I live.
These cars are not inexpensive to maintain With that said, I love my A8!

Used luxury cars sell relatively cheap for a reason. They were flagship cars, with flagship features and commensurate repair/maintenance bills. Unless you are comfortable with a fairly large maintenance budget or spinning your own wrenches, buy a Lexus.
Bigger user base, cheaper parts, more available. Soulless? dunno. I'm sure they are fine cars.
