Default Switched to 0W-40 syn - no more smoke puff on startup

Just an observation - some may see this as a remedy or fluke?

'01 A8L / 175K / all original powertrain, still real strong
  • 5W-30 blend 20K to 130K (old mechanic)
  • 5W-40 syn 130K to 173K (new mechanic)
  • 0W-40 syn 173K to 175K (me w/ evacuator)
  • car burned a quart between 3K intervals on 5W-30 blend, at / after 100K
  • no burn on 5W-40 syn, but puffed on startup after sitting 24 hrs+
  • no burn on 0W-40 syn (yet), no puff on startup (?)... I know my valve seats are aging....but I find this interesting
I went to 0W-40 syn (big jugs @ $22 each) as I could not find the 5W-40 syn in bulk, and it was expensive, only in quarts... Yes, 0W-40 syn meets the VW / Audi / Porsche Oil specs (Mobile 1)

Any thoughts?

Yes, you should try running a compliant oil more often. Mobil 1 0W40 (not Mobile 1) is a fine choice.

The mfr sets a tough set of standards to meet 502.00 for a reason. It's not API, it's not arbitrary.

Really?.. Are you calling me out on a typo? M1 0W40 meets 502 (even 505).....

Probably a good idea for you to go back and get current on tech bulletins before popping off about compliance.

You added zero value to the thread... WTF

Not sure that helped anyone but running the car on a blend to 130K is so not what it was supposed to do.

WOW, someone's excitable. The name of the corporation is Mobil, not "Mobile".

Yes, the Mobil oil you mention meets quite a few OE specs and is a solid choice for Audi engines.
