Transmission interchangeability?
Hey all,
97 D2 4.2L Quattro, 190,000km and the trans has just gone. Have done a refill, but still slips in 1st -3rd, Limp Home Mode then comes along. Have pulled codes out saying Incorrect Gear ratio for 2nd, 3rd and 4th, so pretty much concluded the A Clutch pack has gone. ... I didnt get the trans code when refilling the auto, but its 5sp, so a form of the ZF5HP24A.
Potentially have the possibility of picking up an 04 Allroad, 4.2 Quattro, complete car for cheap. More K's on the car than mine, and the total condition of the car is unknown.
Will the Allroad box fit up and work with the D2? I can get TCU, rear diff everything if needed and swap it out, Ideally if its a simple job we'll chuck in the Allroad box and then rebuild the D2 one. .. as other items from the Allroad will be used elsewhere.
So can it be done easily?
Thanks

The Allroad version also has the low-range transfer box built in. Only the RS6 got the 5HP24, and it has a wider tunnel to accommodate it.
It could just be the A-clutch bearing and o-ring which has failed, in which case its a simple fix as long as you get to it before it starts burning up the clutch material. See this thread for more info: Audi S8 Auto ZF 5HP24A rebuild... :: motorgeek.com
