Wheel Replacement 2002 S8. What fits?
#11
TerminA8r, thanks for the link, I'll take a look.
I do like the fat 5 on this car too... I think I saw some for sale locally as well.
That is a semi-important criteria for me I guess, ease of keeping them clean. I'm still kind of on the fence whether to go 18" or 19", they both look fitting. For some reason, in my head, I think odd number spokes look better than even. I like the 5 and 7 spoke wheels better than the 6 and 8. Then there's the wheels like some of the Rotiform wheels or OZ Supertursimos that have a bunch of spokes and I like those too... Guess I have a "wheel" issue ;-)
Thanks for the suggestions, fellas.

Any input on the wheels that ECS Tuning offers? I'm cautious due to price for a set being inexpensive. Curious about any failures and quality. Haven't found anything on that yet.

When I bought my S8 the stock avus style wheels were pretty rough, so I bought 18x8.5" wheels from VMR (Velocity Motoring) and simply reused my stock 245 size Conti tires. I believe the wheels cost around $800 2 years ago. With an extra 1/2" of width and a bit more offset the stance is definitely more aggressive than stock.
Given the rough roads in and around SF, I had zero interest in going with 19s.

S8ilver, yeah, not sure what my deal is not liking even spokes! ha hah crazy I guess.... I have the original stock wheels in as close to perfect condition as they can get. Just kinda looking for a different look.
Road King, car looks nice with these VMR's. I was also wondering about 19's for the same reason, roads in NorCal are TERRIBLE. Dont want to get a new set of wheels & tires and beat them up. Too many chunked out pieces of pavement in our area...
I've been looking around on CL and some factory Porsche wheels have caught my eye. I like the look but some are 10-11" wide. I know the bolt pattern is different but adapters can take care of that. Looked around here on the forum have found nothing as far as running Porsche wheels. In your opinions would a 19x9.5 (or so) wheel be too much trouble to run? (rubbing and poor ride quality) I'd rather find all 4 wheels in same size as I can then rotate them. As cool as some "wide meat" would look in the back, I have to keep in mind this is not a sports car, but a sporty, kinda big family sedan.

And there's no way that I would go with a staggered setup either, the ability to rotate tires on the S8 is way more important to me than a staggered look.
In fact the 19s are such a hassle for me that I won't run them on my 996TT. I literally just upgraded the stock 18" turbo twists to 18" Forgestars (18x8.5 & 18x11) which allows me to re-use the stock size rubber or 1-2 sizes wider in the future.
No need to make this overly complicated, there are a ton of 18" Audi and/or aftermarket wheels that you can bolt on, re-use your stock tires, and give your car a more modern look.

And they do look pretty good on that black A8! I am assuming he's running two sets of front wheels as almost all 911s run staggered setup.
PS..Rear turbo twists for widebody 996s are 18x11, ET 43 from what I can recall. Not an option for the Audi D2 platform.
