Default Wheel Replacement 2002 S8. What fits?

Hi all,

New poster, long time lurker, please forgive any ignorance...

I'm looking to replace the factory wheels on my 2002 S8. I plan to stick with an 18", as I live in an area with lots of pot holes and want to run extra rubber to protect from bends, while still maintaining performance. I'm mostly curious about wheel width, lug spacing and hub bore. I've found some replicas of S5 rims that i really like but i want to make sure they will fit the hub, clear the brakes and also not rub on full turn of the wheel. I'm planning to run 245/45/18 tires.

Specs on the wheel I'd like to order:

Size: 18x8
Bolt Pattern: 5x112
Offset: 35
Hubcentric: 66.6

Will these fit with a 66.6 to 57.1 Hub Centric Ring Set spacer and does anyone have any bad experience using this set-up?

Thanks all!

Default Welcome to the forum!

All Audis run 5x112. Check out Hartmann wheels...they should all be correct hub bore. A friend of mine used the adapters on a set of OZ wheels on his B9 S4; it was a PITA to change sets so keep that in mind.

Also, plug your numbers into a comparison calculator. This is the one I used when I bought my wheels:

The biggest factor will be the offset. Many many sizes do fit the D2 S8, including the D3 S8 wheel that I run.

The specs sound good to me.
You may need to test fit to make sure the wheel will clear the brakes, as the Brembo calipers are very bulky and can foul some wheel set-ups.

You will definitely need the 66.7 to 57.1 hubcentric spacers to ensure the wheels centralise on the hub correctly - you can try to rely on the bolts, but will probably come unstuck with wheel vibrations if you get it wrong.
Get metal ones if you can - you'll thank me later!

The D2 can run offsets from 48 (stock S8 Avus rims) to somewhere in the vicinity of 25 (with a 245 tyre), though this is very aggressive.
32-35 is a good happy medium, allows for some wider rubber if desired (255's are a nice width - 10" ) and will give a nice flush look near the outer guard/fender

Thinking about running some factory 2013 TT wheels on my 2001 S8. Thing I am kind of concerned with is the difference in weight between the 2 cars.
The wheels are 19x9 with a 52mm offset. Seems I would just need some spacers?
Difference between stock wheels that are on car now and these TT wheels is they're slightly wider and the 17mm additional offset. Played with the "Wheel / tire size comparer" and seems a 245/35/19 tire would work?

Any input would be appreciated!

Depends on what you mean by "work"...that size would be almost a full inch too short...higher rpms at same speed on a car already too rpm-happy, would not visually fill the wheel wells and speedo/odo readings wrong, etc.

245/40/19 (quite a stretch on 9" wide rims) or a 275/35/19 would be closer to correct rolling diameter.

I ran some 255/35x19's on my S5 rims for a while (came with the wheels). Can confirm they look too small in diameter in the guards. Run fast too - knocked speedo out by 5% or more (read above true speed).

Although correct size is 245/40x19, a 255/40x19 may be a better choice on a 9" rim as a 255 is 10" wide (not much in it, but enough). It will only throw your speedo out by about 2.5% (slow).

C5 A6 4.2 wheels will also fit on a D2 with 345mm rotors. I'm running the 17" pie plate wheels for winter. The 17" forged sport wheels will also fit and are very strong and cheap. Both wheels are 17x8 ET30.

silverd2, Thank you for your input. I havent played tire/wheel sizing in almost 10 years, I'm a little rusty. Definitely dont want that "stretched tire" look on a wheel, I'm not driving a Honda! ;-)
Thanks for the additional input, twentysevenlitres & 123quattro. I'm not 100% sold on going to a 19" wheel, but there seems to be a lot of them around, and I think that is about as big of a wheel that would look like it "fits" the car well. The 20" and 21" looks disproportionate, in my opinion.

18s look about right to me. I only run 17s because our roads in Detroit metro are horrendous.

Take a look here for some ideas. Audi A8/S8 Wheels Gallery

I really like the D3 fat five on the D2. Really easy to keep clean too.
