$2,000 for fuel pumps?
I've been chasing down a weird lean condition on bank 1 my 4.2 for over a month now (see my other thread here). After changing both pre-cat O2 sensors, the MAF, and not finding any vacuum leaks, the dealer is saying that both of my fuel pumps need to be replaced at a total cost of $1900 plus change.
Does this diagnostic and cost seem on point? Something feels a bit off to me.

sounds brutally high. i changed just ONE of my fuel pumps and the
part was less than $300. labour wise it wasn't the funnest job, but didn't
make much more than an hour.

Sounds like I need to load AllData when I get home and see if I can do this myself.
I found VDO pumps for about $210 each, and OEM ones for about $380. I'm leaning towards buying my own pumps, even if I pay for labor.

Before taking it to Audi, I dumped two bottles of Techron Fuel injector cleaner into an empty tank and then filled it with 93 octane. Since then, I've used all that fuel and filled up again.
The dealer is insistent that the pump has intermediate pressure problems. Regardless, does it really take at least 2 hours per pump in labor to change out?

Are you getting low fuel pressure codes? Is the performance off at WOT? Have you changed the fuel filter? Have you changed the fuel pressure regulator?
From what I've read, the fuel pumps either work or they don't. They don't degrade in performance over time enough to cause low fuel flow but still appear to work ok. You should try running 12v to each of the pumps direct to check their function.
