Hi all,

I own a 2006 Audi A8L 4.2 TDI (original single frame) and would like to do a S8 retrofit/conversion.

My local certified Audi dealer tells me that they are not sure that the S8 front will fit my 4.2 TDI because of some differences behind the fender/spoiler. But they are not 100% sure.

I found a few guys on the internet saying that it is indeed possible, but they don't tell if it's a direct fit or if some bigger changes are needed.

Can anyone confirm that the original D3/4E Audi S8 front will fit my 2006 4.2 TDI (original single frame) ?

I don't know for sure about your diesel platform but I did put a S8 front bumper cover on my 05 W12. It was pretty easy to do. The grills are interchangeable but the fog lights and covers are different. I used a 08 W12 grill because I liked the looks of that one the best.

I suspect it would be a bolt on deal like my D3. It fit perfectly with no mods. Although only small number of Audi enthusiast can tell the difference between the two, I get compliments almost everywhere I go.

I heard that the intercooler on the 4.2 TDI gets a little bit in the way, and therefore some small modding must be done. But I would like to find out exactly what and how to do this.

I also must say that you W12 look absolutely stunning! And I also plan to fit the W12 grill to the S8 front - just with the Quattro badge instead of the W12 badge.

Do you know where the intercooler is mounted? I would guess it is not mounted on the cover but on the cross member somewhere. If you had to mod it. it would be minimal. If you could see if your diesel requires a different cover vs an regular A8 cover.

Also an 08 W12 and the S8 grill are the same except for the color. The W12 is a glossy black vs the S8 is a matt gray. Depending on the car color, one might look better than the other. Since my W12 is brilliant black, I preferred the black grill.
