Yes... why spend more for the same quality.. agree 100%
Mister Bally,
I never question your integrity and practical sense. What I'm saying for people who take the car to the cheapest shops to get it done cheaply.
You changed the parts yourself, you would never miss tightening any bolts and screws and god knows how many to be missed. That's why I prefer doing it myself. Second, all Audi shops may have these belts and components sitting in inventory readily for the next customers. If I have to take my car to the shop, I would buy these things myself and take them there.
Timing belt breaks, there goes your car heads. The belt quality is a must.
I took out the rollers from the old D2 with 175k miles on them, they're do have some play, but not much and they're still as smooth as a new ones.
Again, I would trust the original parts, just like you (at least wanna be), I would check the original belt periodically and if my thermostat doesn't go before long, I would drive at least to 125k miles and more with original stuff in the car.
Yes, if people just change to get rid of the car soon, then they would try to save money and let the new guys take the chance, but then it came to integrity and KARMA. These people shouldn't be driving Audi either. I like Audi because I've met so many nice Audi owners, I think they're noble, again it's only my opinion.
I tried both regular and premium gas and there is no difference in the way I drive, so I never put premium any more.
Cheers,
Louis
PS: I will be the guinea pig to drive with the original belt until it breaks or when the time to get a D4 whichever comes first. I'll see how long these original belt would last.
My 96 A6 2.8L Avant has 152k miles now and everything is original... Timing belt, water pump... etc.

I expected the original belt to last 150,000 miles before replacing. At that point I would not risk waiting any longer. That was for me and my driving habits though. I was inspecting the belt for cracks by the teeth and looking for a smooth versus hairline cracking outer surface.

If it lasted until 150k... I think I would be satisfied...
I don't floor the gas pedal often, drive very conservatively, taking my time on the roads, enjoy the rides and the car. The weather is not horrible here in CA. The belt should last as you predict.
Thanks,
Louis
