Default 2007 A8L CD Player DEAD, want to integrate ipod

hey fellas,
i have a 07 a8L (love it, have had it since new), the cd player crapped out on me, says error on the screen and if you look at the actual unit it just blinks.

I am reading about other users switching to AMI and having ipod integration, I would absolutely love to be able to do it.

any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance fellas

Default Buy the AMI, remove the power and optical cable from

the CD and put them on the AMI. Make sure to check if your MMI software version is 3360 or higher. If not, you need the to fix the CD to upgrade... Chicken and the egg here.

Cheers,

Louis

Default Yes, you can install AMI instead of CD player

Factory install is to do both of them side by side with an optical and electrical splitter. But as already noted, as long as you are on MMI version 3360 or later you can just plug AMI head unit in directly in lieu of the CD drive. It also saves on the optical and electrical splitter cable, which is kind of pricy. Both units are the same standard module size and fit in either available opening (except for earliest ones where you may also have to mod the glove box). But if you just swap out the CD unit, never an issue there. Only issue is you can then never run an update disc in the future without getting back to a working CD drive.

Am i looking in the front spot for this info?

I think replacing the unit straight up for the other would be ideal, i do not need a cd player, truth be told with Sirius XM I really dont need much but would like to have the functionality there.

TIA

Yes, that is the right spot. Unfortunately, you are running MMI version 27.40, so would need to upgrade to 33.60 (or preferably 46.10) for the AMI to work, which requires a working CD. Basically, you're stuck in a Catch-22.
