Default 2009 A8 timing chain

So, just got this car yesterday and it seems like an amazing car. One owner, Carfax said all maintenance done by the dealer. I did a quick check online about the timing belt/chain and saw they were timing belts so went ahead and got it. However, finding specific review information on the 2009's wasn't working so searched for earlier models, which were belts. Now I find out this has the chain. And it has 167,000 on it. What are the chances this is going to blow up in my face? I haven't drove it much yet but when I have I haven't heard anything other than normal engine noises. Anything specific I should be looking/listening for? Is this a guaranteed failure or does it not affect all cars? While I have the means to take care of this the $3k in parts alone is certainly an eye opener. Any thoughts would certainly be appreciated!

Timing chain issues are not common, and I wouldn't worry about it if it's running fine. Chain guide failure is the most common, and believe me, you'll notice it. If it sounds normal, it is. Keep up on your normal maintenance and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Believe what you read on the internet at your own peril. Your bank account's peril as well.

The D3 forum on AudiWorld is pretty good for accurate information though. Did you read the sticky at the top of the D3 thread? If not, take a few minutes to do so.

Hope you have many miles of safe, happy motoring. I've had over ten years with my D3 so far.

As long as you use the VAG approved motor oil and change it frequently, you should be good. I use LiquiMoly brand oil.
