Adding video 08 A8 base
2008 A8 Base. Nav. BOSE. Sirius Radio. Bluetooth. Six (6) disc cd player. backup camera. CD/AUX button.
What is the easiest way to add video to the mmi screen?
What is the cheapest way to add video to the mmi screen?
I know there are video interfaces you can buy for $200-300, but are there pre existing pins I can tap into on this one?
Ive done a search, and I know you can buy a tv module and tap into those pins, but Ive only seen people adding it to 05-06 cars.

New Best selling interface for 2G MMI A4 A5 A6 Q7 A8 from 2004 to 2009-in Other Electronic Components from Electronic Components & Supplies on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
With vcds or green screen hidden menu, will this work?

I can put in a DVD and play it through the standard mmi on my 2011. I had to use the VAG COM cable to enable VIM (Video In Motion.) As a driver, I find it terribly distracting, so I haven't bothered with it since testing it. If you can play DVD's while parked in your car, you should be able to enable VIM the same way.

Don't mess around this forum with your D4, it has a DVD player as standard, a rare option for the D3, coming with RSE only AFAIK!
And to the original question, you have 2 aux-in in the trunk, IF and only IF you have a TV-tuner in your car. Of course you can have the AUX-in's also without the TV-tuner, but that's a rare oddity.
If you don't know wheter you have a tuner or not, you start the MMI system (or the car), and push the CD/AUX button, OR MEDIA button if you have a 2008-2009 car. This should display either your CD-player, or another source, like the tuner or aux-in, or AMI (audi music interface for USB or Ipod). By first having pressed the CD/AUX or MEDIA button, and then pressing the SOURCE selector (upper-right button around the round ****), you should get a screen similar to this:

At minimum you have only the CD option there, at most, you have a list like that. If you have the AUX or External AV source 1&2 there, you can tap in with a few wires in the trunk. The AUX option is by default disabled, and can be enabled by program.
If you only have the CD option there, you don't have aux-in possibility. Easiest is to get an AMI box to the glovebox, BUT you can of course send your main MMI box to get an FBAS input, and enable the AUX-in capability.

When I press cd/aux, my options are cd and Audi Music Interface.
Would the aux in be located behind the glove box or in the trunk? I didnt see anything in the trunks left hand panel.

full video on my 09'
I picked up an obsolete analog tv tuner from Germany and optic adapter. Power splitter from one of the tuners and it is a plug and play. The car will automatically recognize it but you may have to go into VCDS to change one setting so you don't see a can-bus error. Since the antennas are not hooked up you will see an error for that upon scan. Anyhow, the AUX1 and AUX2 inputs are user defined. Currently I have an 11-pin micro USB wired to hdmi, then converted to RCA as my AUX1. I can plug my note3 directly in, and have video play on the screen. AUX2 was going to be a playstation3, but I never started that task.
Plenty of info and pictures are throughout the forum, use the search.

Thank you for your reply. As I said, I already searched and knew about the tv module. However, people were using those in older cars without backup cameras and AMI.
I was trying to see if there was a newer or different way for 08+ cars.

Right. I forgot. There is a cable you need to go from the tv tuner to the reverse camera box, there is an open socket on that box for the video input. Plugs right in. Once you get all the parts together and depending on how you want to run your set up it may take an hour or so to get everything in order.
